Abstract
134,634. Wrightson, T. G., Ringquist, J. M., and Head, Wrightson, & Co. Nov. 12, 1918. Sirens.-Sirens for signalling &c., of the kind comprising two perforated tubes 1, 4, one being capable of rotation to produce sounds and axial movement to stop the production of sound, are provided with a pipe 8 having one end closed and containing air so as to form a cushion and reduce vibration of the parts; or the perforations in the parallel rows are arranged in staggered lines, so that as a row of perforations in one tube is coming out of register with the perforations in the other, another row of perforations is going into register, whereby there is always a passage open for the escape of water. A reducing-wck 7 or other means is provided to regulate the pressure, which is independent of the note frequency. To produce different notes, there is a greater number of perforations in some rows than in others. In a modified construction, the rotating tube is placed within the stationary tube, the pressure medium being supplied to an annular chamber outside the stationary tube.
