Abstract

1345904 Closing bags A A KEAWAGNA 13 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 9620/71 Heading B8K [Also in Division F2] Bags of plastics film opened by cutting off a corner and containing liquids may be reclosed by a plastics snap closure secured across the bag corner that can be snapped between two stable positions corresponding to the open and closed condition of the bag. The snap closure comprises a collar 30 and a flexible plate 29 connected by a flexible web (38, Fig. 8) the closure may be riveted or heat sealed to the bag. The open position is shown in Fig. 6, while in the closed position, Fig. 7, the bag is drawn taut over the convex surface of the plate 29. The closure may be of polypropylene, linear polyethylene nylon, or polyacetal and the collar 30<SP>1</SP> may be reinforced with spring steel. Ribs 44 assist in providing a good seal. In another form (Figs. 1-4) the plate 29 is part of a conical frustum and has lugs (18, Figs. 1-4) for attaching the closure to the bag. In a further embodiment (Fig. 9) the closure may incorporate a handle (48) and a stiffener (52) for the upper edge of the bag. In another embodiment (Fig. 10) the corner that is cut off is attached to the bag by a strap so that it is retained.
