Abstract

1345606 Laminating method FORD MOTOR CO Ltd 28 May 1971 [1 Aug 1970] 17751/71 Heading B5N [Also in Division B6] A method of coating an article includes the steps of (a) spraying a layer or layers of plastisol on to a mould or former having a shape complementary to the shape of the article to form a coating; (b) heating the coating to cause the plastisol to gel; (c) stripping the coating from the mould or former; and (d) applying the coating to the article. The first layer may be a clear, transparent PVC plastisol which is sprayed on to form a covering and a base layer of coloured PVC may be sprayed over the covering. In the embodiment described a mould or former 1 having a shape complementary to that of a motor vehicle roof is sprayed with a covering layer 2 of clear, transparent PVC plastisol. A decorative article 4 is placed on the covering layer 2, intermediate layers 5 are applied by spraying to selected areas of the covering layer, the plastics coating is completed by spraying on the base layer 3 having a colour differing from that of the areas 5 and the assembly heated to gel the plastisol prior to stripping off the coating and adhesively bonding it to the article.
