Abstract
1344905 Barrel hooping machines SCHOOLHILL HYDRAULIC ENG CO 4 Sept 1972 [17 Sept 1971] 43383/71 Heading B8D A machine for driving metal hoops 32, 33 on to barrels comprises a press-head 5, which is movable on guide rods 4 to and from a barrelsupporting base 1 by hydraulic rams 6A and 6B, and a circle of push arms 8, which are pivoted on the head and have pivoted hoop-engaging claws 9 at their free ends for forcing the hoops down over the barrel staves. The arms, which are biased radially inwards by springs (not shown), are connected to an hydraulic ram 17 to adjust the radial position of the claws to the barrel diameter. A plate 18 is adapted to press end rings 34 on to the barrel. The angular attitude of each claw can be adjusted by screwing a head attachment fork 15, Fig. 1 (not shown), along a rod 14 connecting the claw to the head. The barrel can be raised and rotatably-inverted on a pair of diametricallyopposed clamps, each comprising a centre pin 20 connected by a ram-operated parallelogram linkage to a vertically-guided, ram-operated bracket 22, Figs. 1 and 3 (not shown).
