1344672 Automatic attitude control N G JOHANSSON 26 Aug 1971 [27 Aug 1970] 40175/71 Heading G3R [Also in Division E1] In a road maintenance machine, a blade is maintained horizontal, irrespective of the attitude of the machine, by hydraulic or pneumatic means, which are actuated by electrical pulses from a pulse generator via a switch, responsive to the inclination of the blade to the horizontal, the pulses being interrupted when the blade is horizontal. In the embodiment shown, the machine 1, Fig. 1 has a blade 2 supported on collar 3, cylinder 6 adjusting the angle of the blade to the direction of movement of the vehicle, cylinders 4, 5 controlling the inclination of the blade to the horizontal. A pulse generator, including resistors 13, 14 Fig.2 to set the pulse width and frequency respectively, capacitor C and transistor T 1 , in series with a winding of relay R across a D.C. source, supplies pulses to energise relay R, closing contact R 1 and energising electrically operated valves 10 or 11 according to the blade inclination as sensed by device 12, thus allowing fluid to pass via switch 8, from pump 7 to cylinder 4 whose double acting piston 4a is pivotably fixed to the collar 3 supporting the blade. Cylinder 5 is similarly controlled. Relay R may be omitted and the pulse applied direct to sensor 12. Faster correction, by increasing pulse width or amplitude, may be used if device 12 senses an inclination greater than a preset value. In an alternative, the pulse generator may be a variable speed motor operating a micro-switch.
