Continuous-discharge apparatus with stationary containers.-In a machine for mixing liquid, semiliquid, or viscid materials, particularly applicable for mixing cream or chocolate for sweetmeats, and of the type in which a screw fitted with mixer blades or agitators works within an horizontal cylinder, the blades being of opposite hand to the screw, means are provided for delivering the material at a point above the level of the material in the cylinder. The delivery spout b<3> is adjustable so that it may be set at any desired angle and the cylinder kept full when it is desired to prevent the entry of air. The mixing-chamber b is provided at its upper part with a longitudinal opening, which may be closed either by means of a grid or grating or by means of an imperforate closure f<1>. A steam-coil or other heating-device e' is disposed within the jacket e. The shaft d carries collars h provided at diametrically opposite points with projections or blades h', and the collars may be turned slightly one with regard to the other so that the blades are disposed on helical lines. As shown, the blades are arranged in straight lines, all those of one direction being at one side of the shaft d and those of opposite direction upon the other side. The shape and inclination of the working-surfaces of the blades are such that one feeds the material forward while the other moves it backwards, the backward movement being less than the forward movement. Ribs or projections f<2> may be provided on the under side of the closure f<1>. The material is fed into a hopper b<2>.
