Abstract

1344268 Silencing gaseous flow SOUND ATTENUATORS Ltd 4 Nov 1971 [5 Nov 1970 (2)] 52622/70 and 52623/70 Heading F1B A silencer for a roof-mounted ventilating fan comprises a casing adapted at or adjacent the ends of the air-flow passage defined thereby for attachment to a fan and roof, respectively, a sound absorbing member or members 2, 2a extending across the casing between the ends, linings 1 of sound absorbing material, e.g. glass fibre, mineral wool or foamed plastics, which may be covered by adhesively secured flexible net, extending along the sides of the casing parallel to the axis or axes of the sound absorbing member or members, and projections 1a, 1b from the linings. The projections have the shape of part of the members 2, 2a, e.g. a half. Venturi passages are defined by the members and linings between the ends of the casing, Fig. 2 (not shown). The members 2, 2a may have helically disposed projecting ribs extending around them. The sound-absorbing members may have a cross-section comprising a semicircle and cone, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), the semi-circle facing the casing inlet. The soundabsorbing material may be of the form disclosed in Specification 1341398.
