1344176 Making netting BARNARDS Ltd 6 Oct 1972 [6 July 1971] 31526/71 Heading B3E [Also in Division D1] The free ends of wire netting which has been cut across are wrapped round a separate crosswire by a device comprising a shaftless pinion 9, Fig. 4, having a notch 10 extending from and around its axis and a recess 11 continuing the inner end of the notch, a side plate 13 mounting an arcuate guide 12 within which the pinion rotates, the plate having notch corresponding to that in the pinion and registering with a gap 15 in the guide, and two idler gears 16 on shafts 17 carried by plate 13, the gears meshing with the pinion through further gaps in the guide, and with a driving gear 19 on a drive shaft 4 also journalled in plate 13. A set of such devices, completed by further side plates, are mounted side by side, Fig. 7, by bushes 23 slidable on rods 24, spacers 25 being selected to suit the netting. The notches 10 are all aligned with gaps 15, so that the free ends 36 of the netting can be inserted into the recesses 11 which are blind holes. The separate wire 37 is also laid into notches 10. The common drive shaft 4 is rotated to wind the free ends about wire 37, the netting being drawn down until its intersections abut stops 33. A netting guide 31 extends the length of the machine, and two such machines may be placed back-to-back to deal with both ends of a severed piece of netting at once. The whole of the width of the netting may be dealt with at once, or the. ends may be wound singly or in sets and the device(s) and netting be traversed relative to one another.
