Abstract

1343929 Two-part couplings BURNDY CORP 24 May 1971 [28 May 1970] 16559/71 Heading H2E A socket contact 16 comprises a central bore 54 with an aperture 58 extending from the external surface to the bore and a slit spring band 20 encircling the socket, the band having a detent portion 70 which projects through the aperture and into the bore and a spout 68 which can receive a lever-tool 72 for deflecting the spring to remove the portion 70 from the bore. The socket has a flat surface 56 in which the aperture 58 is formed while the slit 62 in the spring band is inclined to the central axis, the portion 70 serving to position the band and to interlock with a circumferential groove (76) on a mating pin contact 74, withdrawal of the pin being prevented unless the portion 70 is removed from the groove (76) by the tool 72 being inserted into the spout 68 through an extension 78 of a housing part 10. A plurality of sockets may be interconnected by seating them in a conducting base 18 and enclosing them in an insulating housing of two parts 10, 12 to form a junction assembly, projections 36 on the sockets seating against a wall 28 having openings 32 in which the mouths of the sockets are contained, with the spouts 68 aligned with extensions 78. The housing parts are joined together by mounting blocks 42, which extend through openings 38, 40. The housing may be mounted on a support or be stacked with other housings by means of openings 48, 50 in the blocks.
