Abstract

1343074 Tool changers WERKZEUGMASCHINENKOMBINAT "FRITZ HECKERT" KARL-MARX-STADT VEB 4 May 1971 12963/71 Heading B3B Tool changing apparatus for machine tools having a vertical work spindle and a tool store arranged adjacent the machine tool, comprises a pivotally mounted tool changer head 9 for orienting a tool from a horizontal position at the tool store to a vertical position at an exchange position of the machine tool, the tool changer head 9 being arranged at one end of a telescopically extensible support 7 which is pivotable in a horizontal plane between the tool store and the machine tool, the tool changer head 9 including two independently slidable tool gripper members 10, 11. Each gripper member is operable only when at the tool change position, or adjacent the tool store pick-up position, by an hydraulic cylinder 13. The cylinder 13 is eccentrically mounted relative to the pivot axis of the head 9 so that a drive pin 14 on each gripper 10, 11 only engages a groove 15 in the cylinder 13 at the required position. The head 9 is pivoted by hydraulic cylinder 12 acting through a rack and pinion 24 and gears 26. The support 7 is is rotated in its horizontal plane by an hydraulic cylinder 6 acting through a rack and pinion 19. Bevel gears 8 effect rotation of the head 9 through 90 degrees. The tool changing apparatus includes a bed (21) (Fig. 1, not shown) having three columns (16) on which a slide (2) carrying the support 7 vertically moves. The slide 2 moves vertically to the vertical position of the spindle in the machine tool. The tool store may be a vertically arranged disc having concentric rings of tool storage positions, or may be a chain storage device.
