Abstract
1342866 5-Hydroxy-1 -tetralone and derivatives WARNER-LAMBERT CO 17 April 1972 [25 May 1971] 17659/72 Heading C2C In a process for preparing 5-hydroxy- 1 - tetralone an aqueous alcoholic solution of 1,5- dihydroxy-naphthalene is reacted with gaseous hydrogen in the presence of a palladium reducing catalyst and an equimolar quantity of an alkali metal hydroxide until one molar proportion of hydrogen has been absorbed. The product is reacted with epichlorhydrin to obtain 2,3 epoxypropoxy - 1 - tetralone and the latter is reacted with an appropriate amine to obtain a 3,4-dihydronaphthalenoneoxy-2-hydroxypropylamine, e.g. 3,4-dihydronaphthalenone - oxy - 2 - hydroxy - (N - tert - butyl)- propylamine.
