Abstract

1342489 Organosilicon polymerization catalysts FIBER INDUSTRIES Inc 24 Nov 1970 [24 Nov 1969 2 Nov 1970] 10012/73 Heading C3S Hydrolysis-stable compounds are prepared by reacting one mole of with 1À1 to 20 moles of for 50 minutes to 6 hours at 50‹ to 250‹ C., wherein M denotes Ti, Zr, Ge, Si, Pb or Sn, R 2 and R 4 denote OH or Cl, and the remaining R substituents denote C 1-18 alkyl, C 1-18 acyl, C 1-18 alkoxy, C 6-18 aryl, C 6-18 aryloxy or hydrogen, provided that at least one of R 5 , R 6 , R 7 and R 8 is not hydrogen. The reaction may be conducted with simultaneous vacuum treatment or may be followed by a subsequent vacuum treatment. In examples, the first reactant is diphenylsilanediol or diphenyldichlorosilane and the second reactant is tetraethoxysilane, tetramethoxysilane, dibutyltin dibutoxide, tetraethoxy germanium, tetraisopropyl zirconate, tin tetraisopropoxide and a range of alkyl and/or aryl titanates. Uses.-As polymerization catalysts in the preparation of polyesters from diols and dicarboxylic acids.
