Abstract

1341825 Motor in wheel units NEWAGE ENGS Ltd 19 April 1971 [24 Nov 1969] 57347/69 Heading B7H In a motor-in-wheel unit preferably driven by an electric motor 14 via gyratory epicylic gearing and in which the wheel 28, 33 is mounted by bearings 26 and 36 on the motor housing 11, the motor shaft 19 is removably journalled by bearing 20, 21 in fixed and detachable end covers 12 and 13 to facilitate removal of the motor. A pinion 51 having eccentric cams 52A, 52B is splined to the motor shaft, each cam bearing an externally toothed planet gear 53A, 53B which mesh respectively with output gears 58A, 58B formed on the surrounding internal surface of the hub member 28. The hub member 28 is carried via a bearing 26 on a member 24 fixed to the cover 12 and is attached to a wheel rim 33 or 40 rotatably supported on the housing by a bearing 36. A central aperture closable by a plug 63 in the hub member allows access to a shaft locking nut 61. Pins 55 with surrounding rollers 66 pass through enlarged holes 57 in the planet gears to support them during gyratory movement. When an electric motor is used the stator 15 may be removably secured to the housing 11 by bolts 16 so that all parts of the motor may be removed. A bracket 45 for securing the unit to a vehicle is provided.
