Abstract

1341609 Wet grinding of alumina-containing ores TATABANYAI SZENBANYAK 14 May 1971 [20 May 1970] 14901/71 Heading C1A As-mined or coarsely crushed alumina-containing ore (e.g. bauxite) is treated, prior to alkaline extraction of the alumina, with an aqueous alkaline leaching liquor for up to 12 hours (e.g. 0À5 to 2À5 hours) to soften and loosen its mineral structure and is then, with additional leaching liquor if necessary, reduced to a slurry of particle size 2 mm. or less, preferably using a grinding-conveyer pump. The leaching liquor is preferably at 50‹ to 90‹ C. and the ore may be crushed to a particle size of 20 to 30 mm. before the grinding step.
