Abstract

1341238 Printing apparatus W KAMMANN [trading as WERNER KAMMANN] 23 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 10996/71 Heading B6C An automatically operable screen printing machine for printing the surfaces of articles of oval section is capable of being adjusted to correspond to the ovality and/or length of the article. In the described embodiment the machine has a device 12 for holding oval section articles to be printed and a printing station of a screen 19 and doctor blade 19a and the holding device is located below the printing station and has two spaced holding members 13, 14. The latter members are adapted to execute a pivotal movement about an axis extending in the longitudinal direction of the article dependent upon the movement of the screen to roll the article during the printing process and are located on both sides of the path of movement and above the plane of movement of an intermittent conveyer device 15, 16, which is stationary in the article receiving and delivery area. The holding members have parts pivotable upwardly out of the plane of movement of the article opposite to the direction of movement of the conveyer and returnable to the plane of movement of the conveyer. The conveyer has an article receiving recess for transferring the article to the holding members and for taking the article from the holding members after the printing process is complete. One of the parts of a holding member is coupled by way of a rack drive 18 to the screen and one of the holding members is rotatably mounted and connected to a control lever 22, Fig. 4, co-operating with a rail 21 so as to turn the holding member into the article receiving and removing position. One of the holding members is controllable in its axial rotation, having a recess for receiving the base of the article to be printed and being journalled to rotate on a shaft 17 with a gear 20 which meshes with the screen rack drive 18. The control lever 22 co-operates with the rail 21 and acts to turn the holding member into the receiving and delivery position. The rail 21 for controlling the holding member extends along a control member 26 which is adjustable in height and clearance from the pivoted axis of the holding device so that by setting this control member 26 and by the axial setting of the control lever, 22 articles having different sizes of oval crosssections can be brought into a correct position for take-over and delivery. One holding member is adjustable in height by means of a bearing bar 34 (with a radial clearance from the pivotal axis of the holding device) on a toothed segment 33 so that articles having different conical surfaces and radii are presented accurately to the screen and printed.
