1341053 Process for dihydrofurans IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 30 March 1972 [25 May 1971] 16871/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises making therapeutic compounds (I) by reacting (II) (can exist in the tautomeric form III) with ROH and an acid, esp. H 2 SO 4 (R is C 1 to C 3 alkyl, and one of A and B is phenyl or m-halophenyl and the other is m-halophenyl, or one of A and B is phenyl and the other is 3,5- dihalo-substituted phenyl). A typical product is 2 - (m - chloro - α - methoxycarbonylbenzylidene) - 4 - m - chlorophenyl - 3 - hydroxy-5-oxo- 2,5-dihydrofuran.
