Abstract
1340558 Polyphenylene oxide resin compositions UNIROYAL Inc 19 April 1971 [17 April 1970] 25387/71 Headings C3R and C3P A flame resistant thermoplastic blended composition comprises (a) 80-99% wt. of a thermoplastic polyphenylene oxide resin having the repeating unit where n is at least 100, and Q 1 -Q 4 is selected from hydrogen, halogen, a hydrocarbon, halohydrocarbon or halohydrocarbonoxy radical free of tertiary alpha-carbon atoms the latter two radicals having at least 2 carbon atoms between the halogen atom and phenol nucleus; and (b) 20-1% wt. of a hexafluoropropylenevinylidene fluoride copolymer derived from copolymerization of the monomers CF 2 = CF. CF 3 and CH 2 = CF 2 . Resin (a) is preferably poly(2,6-dimethyl-1,4-phenylene) oxide and copolymer (b) preferably consists of 70-30% wt. hexafluoropropylene units and 30-70% wt. vinylidene fluoride units. The polymer blend can be mixed with fillers such as wood, flour, diatomaceous earth, carbon black and silica. Uses.-Moulding powders for gears, bearings, cams.
