Abstract
1340145 Power-assisted steering mechanism BENDIX CORP 7 Sept 1971 [21 Sept 1970] 20094/73 Divided out of 1340144 Heading B7H [Also in Division F2] The disclosure is identical to that of the parent Specification 1,340,144, but the claims relate to: an hydraulic boost device, comprising a housing 10 having a pair of inlet ports 14, 16, a pair of outlet ports 18, 20 a chamber 34 in fluid communication with the ports, a movable piston 36 in the chamber, a valve 48 slidable in the housing from a first position communicating the chamber with one outlet port 20, and one inlet port 14 with the other outlet port 18 to a second position terminating fluid communication between the chamber and the one outlet port 20 and communicating at least a portion of the fluid flowing into the one inlet port 14 to the chamber, operator-actuated means for moving the valve, stop means within the housing responsive to the fluid pressure in the other inlet port 16 to prevent valve movement to its second position, the other inlet port 16 then communicating fluid into the chamber when its fluid pressure is greater than that of the chamber, the valve including other means to impede fluid flow from the chamber to the one outlet port upon operator-actuated means operation during fluid communication into the chamber through the other inlet port whereby the fluid pressure in the chamber is increased to move the piston.
