[Also in Divisions A4; E1 and G4] Apparatus for dispensing a mixture of a liquid and powdered and/or granular material comprises a liquid storage tank 7 from which liquid can flow under gravity to a further tank 8 having a valve controlled dispensing pipe 44, and at least one canister 22, for the powdered material, including material dispensing means driven by an electric motor. The apparatus includes an electric timer which starts the or each electric motor after opening the dispensing valve and stops the or each motor before closure of the dispensing valve. The material dispensing means includes a pocketed wheel 29 (Fig. 2, not shown) to dispense the material through an aperture 35, detachable funnel 41 and mixing bowl 43 into a container (not shown). The materials within the canisters are agitated by agitators 39. The pockets in the wheel may each be divided into two parts and a radially slidable shutter may be provided between the wheel and the aperture 35, displacement of the shutter exposing either or both parts of each pocket. The tank 8 may include an immersion heater or a liquid cooling device and a fan 46 may be provided to exhaust steam. The tank 7 for cold water includes a vented chamber 13 which communicates with the chamber 12 via an aperture 17. The aperture 17 may be variable in size e.g. by a manually adjustable valve or automatically by providing the aperture with a float controlled valve which is operated by level of liquid in chamber 12. When water is dispensed from the tank 8, the water in chamber 13 will flow via pipe 11 faster than it can be replaced thus giving a substantially constant pressure on water in the tank 8.
