Abstract
1,239,403. Load carrying garments. I. W. S. NOMINEE CO. Ltd. 12 Aug., 1968 [10 Aug., 1967; 22 Sept., 1967], Nos. 36747/67 and 43300/67. Heading A3V. An upper garment for carrying loads has on each side of the front of the garment at least one load-carrying pocket 13, 14, 15 suspended from an element 11, 12 which may take the form of a thick, relatively inextensible load-bearing seam, or of a band of inextensible material concealed within the garment. The upper end of the element is attached to the respective side of the upper part of the garment adjacent in wear to the base of the neck, the said element being formed of material less extensible than the principal material of the garment. The garment may be a coat or jacket with or without sleeves, and of particular use in engineering or agricultural work, or it may be an underjacket. In one embodiment the garment has a neck band portion 6 and is provided with pockets 13, 14, 15 which are suspended from relatively inextensible load-bearing seams 11, 12 which extend upwards to the neck band portion 6, whereby in use the weight of the pockets and of any contents thereof is transmitted by the seams and the neck band portion to the base of the neck of the wearer. The jacket is fastened by buttons 9. In another embodiment an underjacket is provided on each side in front with a pocket formed from or connected to a band of material the upper end of which is attached to the inner or upper shoulder region of the garment adjacent in wear to the base of the neck, the material of the said bands being less extensible than the principal material of the underjacket. The pockets have downwardly extending openings and the jacket may have a sliding clasp front fastener.
