Abstract

1,239,303. Aerials. TELEFUNKEN PATENTVERWERTUNGS G.m.b.H. 28 June, 1968 [29 June, 1967], No. 31080/68. Heading H4A. A loop aerial has a core of highly permeable material carrying a winding. The core is so shaped and the winding is so arranged, that a major part of the magnetic flux produced by a current in the winding is mainly confined in the core over the whole path of said flux. As described, a substantially closed core is formed by four rod-shaped members 1, 2, 3, 4, Fig. 1, there being a small air gap between the members 2 and 3. An aerial winding 5 is provided on the member 4. In a second embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown), a core (9) of annular shape is provided. In a third embodiment, two windings 5a, 5b, Fig. 3, are provided which may be connected in series or in parallel by terminals 6a, 7a and 6b, 7b. Three parallel rod-shaped members 11, 13, 14 abut end members 10, 12 to form a closed core. The windings 5a, 5b are disposed on the outer members 11, 13, respectively, and the centre member 14 is of larger cross-section to carry the combined magnetic fluxes due to currents in the said windings. A fourth embodiment (Fig. 4, not shown) is similar to the embodiment shown in Fig. 1, except that no air gap is provided and that the end members (1), (3) project beyond the member (4) on which the winding (5) is disposed and beyond the member (2) which is parallel to the member (4). It is stated that aerials of this kind are particularly suitable for use in a lossy medium, for example, under water.
