Abstract

1,239,375. Fastener. UNIVERSAL ANCHORAGE CO. Ltd. 11 Nov., 1969 [14 May, 1969], No. 24557/69. Heading F2H. A fastening device comprises a shank 6 having a flange 4 wider than the shank, the shank being hollow but closed at one end, the interior of the shank having a passage formed by a pair of interconnected, coaxial and colinear tubular parts 10, 12 of different and uniform cross-sectional area, the wider part 10 leading to the open end of the shank, at least one opening 20 being provided through the shank adjacent and spaced from the narrower part 12 of the passage, so that in use a solid member 16 of cross-sectional area between those of the passages may be driven into the narrower part to expand the shank. Preferably member 16 is a steel ball retained in the wider part of the bore by a flange projecting into the wider part. The nose 22 is shaped to enable the fastener to be forced through several plies of steel &c when the holes therein are not in line.
