Abstract
1,238,935. Draught control system. PILKINGTON BROS. Ltd., C. INMAN, and D. G. CADWELL. 13 June, 1969 [18 June, 1968] No. 29036/68. Heading F4B. Chimney draught is controlled by directing a stream of air centrally downwards into the chimney and deflecting gases rising adjacent the chimney wall towards the centre of the chimney to produce a recirculation of the chimney gases. In a chimney 21 leading from a recuperator 22 in the waste gas off-take of a glass furnace 19, a nozzle directs air downwardly at the centre of the chimney top. An inturned lip on the chimney deflects the rising gases inwardly, and the air delivered from a fan 24 is controlled in accordance with the pressure above the glass in the furnace. A sensor 29 compensates for changes in the ambient atmospheric pressure. The top of the chimney may be surrounded by a wind shield, and the nozzle may be spaced from the plane of the chimney top so long as the stream of control air penetrates beyond the lip at the chimney top.
