Abstract
1,237,529. Inhibiting scale. TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP. Dec. 10, 1969, No.60170/69. Heading C7E. Scaling in an aqueous system is inhibited by incorporating therein a phosphate ester having the general formula wherein R is C 6 -C 12 alkylphenyl or C 12 -C 18 alkyl, n = 1 to 20, x, y = 1 or 2 and x + y = 3, the ester having M.W. 500 to 1000, or a salt of said ester, said ester being used in amounts of 0À0005 to 0À005 wt per cent in the aqueous system, which preferably has pH 7À1 to 8 and temperature 100 to 200‹F. and may be circulating water in an oil-orgaswell system. The ester may be made up as a concentrate in an aqueous, aqueous alkanol, or aqueous glycol medium, the concentrate containing, ester 10 to 25 wt per cent, 0À75 to 3% of alkaline agent (NaOH, KOH or NH 4 OH) and 0 to 40% glycol or alkanol (e.g. ethylene or propylene glycol, MeOH, EtOH, PrOH or i-PrOH.
