Abstract

1,237,345. Washing machines. G. A. BRAUN Inc. 12 Feb., 1970 [13 Feb., 1969], No. 6910/70. Heading D1A. A washing machine has a wash drum which is rotatable about a horizontal axis for washing and spin-drying and is divided by walls 42 arranged tangentially of a rotary shaft 24 into three compartments each with an unloading door 68 and a loading door 70 adjacent a respective wall 42, a stationary shell 84 surrounding the drum and having a sump 86 and an arcuate opening 90 which extends above and below the drum axis and by the circumferential width of the doors 70 and 68 and is closable by a slidable door 92. The drum further comprises circular flat end plates interconnected by six tubular members 36, 38 and 40 and a perforated shell 66 and the doors 68 and 70 have side hinges. In use each compartment is unloaded by opening the door 68 adjacent the lower edge of the opening 90 when the laundry slides out on the inclined lower wall onto a chute or conveyor and is loaded by rotating the drum anticlockwise by say 40‹ and dropping laundry from a conveyor or chute through the opened door 70.
