Abstract

1,236,561. Lasers. ASSOCIATED ENG. Ltd. 2 July, 1968 [5 April, 1967], No. 15722/67. Heading H1C. [Also in Divisions F1 and G2] In an ignition system light from a normally low level emitting gallium arsenide laser L is distributed by a rotatable section of light guide F2 associated with fixed light guides F3-F6 to the individual cylinders. Part of the output of the laser L is fed back over feedback paths P3 to P6 to photo-electric cell C to increase the current through the laser L and hence provide an increased light pulse output at the times of firing the cylinders. A plurality of lasers may be used. The light pulses may be used to trigger a spark gap or S.C.R.
