Abstract

[Also in Division G3] A fluidic sensing device comprises a member 1 having a chamber 20 movable, relative to an input and two output ports, in one direction to provide repetitively alternate charging and discharging of the chamber via the input and one of the output ports respectively to produce a pressure at the output port indicative of movement in the said one direction, and in another direction similarly to provide pressure at the other output port. Annulus 19 carries two input ports 16, 17, Fig.1, or S1, S2, Fig.2, and two pairs of output ports A 1 , A 2 and B 1 , B 2 , each pair being connected to an output pipe 10 or 11 respectively. Member 1 is coupled to a shaft where motion is to be indicated or measured by grub screw 29, and contains 9 separate chambers each connected to the face of member 1 adjacent annulus 19 by an aperture 21. A source of air-pressure is connected to inlet ports S 1 and S 2 via pipe 9. On rotation of member 1 by the shaft in direction A, Fig. 2, each chamber in member 1 takes in air as its aperture 21 passes an inlet port S 1 or S 2 and gives out air as it passes an outlet port A 1 or A 2 respectively. Each chamber is vented as it passes gaps 31 between sets of ports. The pressure at an output port may be smoothed and is a function of the velocity of rotation. The ports may be elongated in the annulus 19 as in Fig.2 for high speed measurement. A greater number of sets of ports e.g. four sets may be provided.
