Abstract
1,236,369. Separating hydrocarbons. UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO. 17 June, 1969 [24 June, 1968; 12 March, 1969], No. 30561/69. Heading B1L. [Also in Division C5] At least one C 8 aromatic isomer is separated from a feed stock comprising mixed C 8 aromatic isomers by a liquid or vapour phase adsorbtion/desorption process in which the adsorbent is a faujasite-type crystalline aluminosilicate containing at least one of the cations K, Rb, Cs, Ba and Ag together with at least one different cation selected from Li, K, Ba, Mg, Sr, Be, Cd, Co, Ni, Cu, Mn, Ag and Zn. Suitable adsorbents are zeolites X and Y, and preferred cation combinations are Ba-K, Be-K, K-Mg, Rb-Ba and K-Cs. Conventional desorbents are used, and the process is particularly suitable for absorption of p-xylene.
