Abstract
1,235,787. Sustained release tablets. CHAS. PFIZER & CO. Inc. 16 May, 1969 [10 June, 1968], No. 25235/69. Heading A5B. A pharmaceutical sustained release tablet is prepared by tableting in the usual way a uniform mixture of 5-70% by weight medicament, 15-50% hydrophobic solution retardent selected from hydrogenated cottonseed oil, hydrogenated castor oil, carnauba wax, beeswax, spermaceti and shellac, 0.1 to 5% of an enteric, acid-insoluble release agent selected from cellulose acetate phthalate, starch acetate phthalate and phthalic acid derivatives of poly acrylic acid, and 5-15% of a water-soluble or water-dispersible binder selected from polyvinyl pyrrolidone and acacia. Numerous medicaments are mentioned and specific examples relate to the tablets containing Metamine (Trade Mark) and metamine/butabarbitol and theophylline/ephedrine mixtures.
