Abstract
1,235,372. Perforating apparatus. U. J. PRIOR. 20 May, 1968, No. 13573/68. Heading B4B. [Also in Division B3] In apparatus for perforating thin sheets of material, e.g. sheets of postage stamps comprising rotating pin and pin-hole rollers 2, 1, the pin-hole roller 1 having openings 9, 12 communicating with an apertured cavity 10 for removing scrap, and the diameter of the openings 9 being greater than that of the pins P, at least part of the surface of the pin-hole roller is covered by an element which is perforated by the pins upon initial operation of the apparatus. In one example, the cover element is a thin sheet 8 of metal covering a sector of the surface 60 of the pin-hole roller. The thickness of the metal sheet is from 0À08 to 0À1 mm. In another example, the element is a thin galvanic coating overlying the surface of the pin-hole roller entirely. The coating has a minimum thickness of 0À05 mm. and may consist of nickel or copper and be electrodeposited. To enable pins to be replaced when broken or worn, the pin roller 2 comprises perforated halves 20, 30 bolted together and two tightening rings 35.
