Abstract
1,235,058. Ceramic pigments. TH. GOLDSCHMIDT A.G. 12 Dec., 1969 [25 Jan., 1969], No. 60828/69. Heading C1M. A stanniferous ceramic pigment is produced by calcining stannous oxide and a mixture comprising compounds containing antimony and vanadium, said compounds being present in quantities that will provide up to 10% by weight of each of antimony and vanadium oxides in the pigment. The calcination is preferably in two steps and between 900 and 1400‹ C. The stannous oxide may be present in the starting material in an amount of 50-95% by weight. The antimony-containing compound may be Sb 2 O 3 or Sb 2 O 5 and the vanadium compound ammonium metavanadate (NH 4 VO 3 ). Silica and zirconia may also be present in the pigment. The pigments normally give a greyish colour after incorporation in a colourless glaze but chromium oxide may be added to give a green-grey colour.
