Abstract

1,234,689. Papermaking. LODDING ENG., CORP. 3 April, 1969 [8 April, 1968; 27 Jan., 1969], No. 17666/69. Heading D2A. [Also in Division F2] A doctor blade assembly includes a doctor blade, a support member, and a yieldable displacement member comprising a longitudinally hollow tubular member having a base wall located on the support member, at least one flexible wall of the tubular member bearing against the doctor blade, the tubular member being sealed and containing a fixed volume of a non-compressible fluid, i.e. a liquid or a finely divided solid, to the exclusion of compressible material, the fixed volume being limited so that the member is not filled to its full capacity under pressure sufficient to cause substantial elastic deformation of the wall, and the material of the wall being such that, in use, it is substantially unstretched. As shown, doctor blade 16 is retained between upper jaw 15 and flexible lower jaw 17. Displacement member 26 bears on support plate 24, which is in contact with the blade. Dimples 18 retain the blade in the assembly. Stop 27 prevents removal of the displacement member 26. The member may also be extended so that it may be attached to the spacer means 19, and to perform the functions of bottom jaw 17 (Fig. 5, not shown).
