Abstract

1,233,539. Plate assembly for cleaning gases. D. A. METCALFE. 18 June, 1968 [21 June, 1967], No. 28545/67. Heading BIT. Liquid droplets are removed from a gas by passing it in the direction 16 between an assembly of parallel, zig-zag baffles 10 having flange extensions 17 to form traps 18; the spacing between adjacent baffles being such that the gases cannot follow a rectilinear path, but that a straight line can extend through the upstream-downstream direction of any passageway without intercepting the zig-zag portions of the baffles. As described, air containing vegetable oils from a kitchen enters the open end of the baffle assembly and oils collecting in traps 18 trickle downwards into a sump. The assembly may be held in a frame (20) by catches (24) so as to be removable for cleaning, Fig. 3 (not shown). Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown) illustrate an arrangement of two such assemblies in V-configuration within a cooker canopy (28).
