Abstract
1,233,534. Liquid heaters. E. H. PRIEST, and G. M. PRIEST. 3 May, 1968 [5 May, 1967], No. 20998/67. Heading F4A. In a fluid heater particularly for heating a heat transfer liquid, of the type comprising a combustion chamber 1 and an oil- or gas-fired burner 2 and wherein the fluid to be heated flows through an annular passage surrounding the chamber and defined between inner and outer steel shells 3, 8 respectively, the end walls 5, 6 of the combustion chamber are each provided with a plurality of fins 7 to extend their heat transfer area. Alternatively a single helical fin (9, Fig. 4, not shown) may be used. As shown the combustion products leave the chamber 1 through an annular opening 11 surrounding the burner. In various modifications the combustion products may leave the chamber at other locations, e.g. through an extension of the end wall 6 (Figs. 7 and 8) or through an annular collecting duct (15, Fig. 2) located within the chamber 1. Alternatively (Figs. 9, 10) the combustion products may exit through an annular return duct spaced from and surrounding the combustion chamber.
