Abstract
1,232,639. Core constructions. S. N. SMITH. 15 Aug., 1968, No. 38977/68. Heading H2A. Stator and rotor salient poles 18, 22 respectively of a machine have enlarged heads which are a sliding fit in longitudinal undercut grooves 12, 24 in the stator shell 10 and rotor core 26 whereby they and the coils 28, 30 carried thereby may be individually removed for servicing. Connection of the coils to supply terminals, slip rings or commutator segments may be effected through plug and socket or spring finger contacts. For example, pairs of commutator segments, Fig. 2, are connected to socket contacts 42 carried by an insulating plate 38 adjacent the commutator and engaged by plug contacts 46 connected to the rotor coils and mounted on the ends of the poles 22. A part spherical enlargement may be formed at the end of the rotor which facilitates re-insertion of the rotor, when it is necessary to remove it as a whole for servicing, by raising the brushes to permit passage of the commutator or slip rings.
