Abstract

1,232,511. Lap forming machine. COMPAGNIE DE SAINT-GOBAIN. 25 April, 1969 [25 April, 1968], No. 21306/69. Heading DIN. Fibres are prevented from touching and adhering to a wall of a chamber through which they pass by causing a gas to pass through a plurality of openings 3 in the wall. The openings 3 are so shaped and disposed that a substantially continuous gaseous sheet or layer is formed and caused to flow along the wall and in the direction of movement of the fibres whereby fibres approaching the wall are prevented from touching it. As shown, the chamber is part of a web-forming device in which organically coated glass fibres are collected on endless foraminous surface 13. The sizes and arrangement of the openings 3 are specified.
