Abstract
1,232,191. Heat-treating metal strip. SOC. ANON. HEURTEY. Jan 6, 1969 No.733/69. Heading C7N. [Also in Division F4J Apparatus for heating or cooling continuous lengths of sheet or strip material includes supporting rollers, there being located in each space between two successive rollers a gas outlet on each side of the material path which discharges treatment gas on to the material in a direction perpendicular to it. Both outlets are supplied by a single turbine having diametrically opposite outlets, the turbine also extracting gas in counterflow to the supply. To cool the material a heat exchanger may be incorporated in the turbine intake system, while for heating the exchanger may be located at the turbine outlet. As illustrated, gas ducted from the turbine 18 through ducts 22, 24 is discharged on to strip 10 through units 14, 16, as shown by arrows F, and is then withdrawn as shown by arrows f through openings 30<SP>1</SP>, 30, 32, 34, 34<SP>1</SP> passing through the injector units and returned by ducts 26 to heat exchanger 28 and the turbine. The treatment of metal, painted or otherwise, and paper, by heating, cooling or drying, is referred to.
