A heat exchanger matrix comprises nested units 10, 11, 12, each formed from tubing wound into a frusto-conical configuration to which fluid is supplied and removed by separate headers 14, 15, and fluid to be heated or cooled by passage over the tubing is blown thereover by a power-operated fan 16.
