Abstract
1,231,760. Deflecting propulsion jets. BERTIN & CIE. 26 Feb., 1969 [29 Feb., 1968], No. 10241/69. Heading B7G. [Also in Division F1] In a gas turbine ducted fan or by-pass type jet engine, the turbine exhaust gases discharge through inner duct 21 and the by-pass air through the annular duct 22, a jet nozzle comprising a blanking wall 25 and four ducts 26 whereby the turbine exhaust gases are caused to discharge through an outer annular outlet 24 as shown by arrows G, while the by-pass or fan air discharges through an inner central outlet within the outlet 24 as indicated by arrows F, the air flow passing around the ducts 26. The nozzle has a thrust reverser device disposed upstream thereof, the reverser comprising pairs of part-spherical members 38, 39 which in the forward thrust position as shown at the upper part of the Figure close off lateral outlets 36, 37 and in the reverse thrust position as shown at the lower part of the Figure open the lateral outlets 36, 37 and close off the exhaust gas duct 21 and the fan duct 22 respectively.
