A gas/liquid contact tray has a riser 9 in an aperture in the tray and a closure disc 11 secured on a shaft 10 rotatable and vertically movable in a bore through a plate 12, the disc having outwardly extending vanes. 13. As shown the shaft 10 carries a vaned wheel 14 at its lower end.
