Abstract
1,230,028. Amplifiers. SIEMENS A.G. 4 Aug., 1969 [5 Aug., 1968], No. 38907/69. Heading H3T. An amplifier 7 for compensating line loss is provided with frequency dependent negative feedback over-a network 5 comprising distributed series resistance and distributed shunt capacitance, that end of the network connected to the input of the amplifier being terminated by a frequency-dependent reactance which simulates the surge impedance of the network. In the embodiment the frequency-dependent reactance comprises a further network 10 comprising distributed series resistance and distributed shunt capacitance, terminated by a resistor 11. The amplifier 7 is provided with input and output junctions 6, 8 respectively. The effective length of the network 5 may be made adjustable, to compensate for different line losses, and this network may be shunted by a capacitor (not shown) which is operative outside the transmission band. The network 5 may employ a material having substantially the same thermal drift characteristic of attenuation as a given cable. The arrangement may be constructed as an integrated circuit.
