Abstract

1,229,749. Refining catalysts. MOBIL OIL CORP. 18 March, 1969 [4 April, 1968], No. 14183/69. Heading B1E. [Also in Division C5] Refining catalysts comprise (A) a base containing, on a dry basis, (1) from 20-95% of an amorphous synthetic inorganic oxide gel consisting of SiO 2 gel or SiO 2 -metal oxide gel wherein the metal is Mg or a Group IIIA or IVb metal and (2) from 5-80% of a solid inorganic particulate material characterised in that when heated at 1200‹F for one hour it has a smaller degree of shrinkage than similarly heated component (1) and (B) a hydrogenation component intimately admixed with the base and being a metal, metal oxide or metal sulphide the metal being of Groups VIB, VIIB or VIII and being present from 0.1-50%. Specified solid inorganic particulate materials are clay, Al 2 O 3 , ZrO 2 , TiO 2 , SiO 2 , SiO 2 -ZrO 2 , SiO 2 -Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 -TiO 2 and SiO 2 - MgO. The hydrogenation component may be oxides or sulphides of Co-Mo, Ni-W or Pt metal. Examples provide preparative details and physical properties of. products.
