Abstract
1,229,746. Telescopic umbrellas. BREMSHEY & CO. 7 Feb., 1969 [27 Feb., 1968], No. 6827/69. Heading A4P. A frame for a telescopic umbrella comprises at least two telescopic stick parts which are successively larger in crosssection from a top part 3 adjacent a crown 5, to a bottom part 1 adjacent a handle, a main slider 6 and an auxiliary slider 7 which slide on the stick and support ribs 8, slider 7 sliding between the crown 5 and main slider 6, the main slider having a spring- urged member 6a engageable in a recess 16 in stick part 3 to lock the frame in an opened position, slider 6 having an internal bore allowing it to slide along stick part 1, and a sleeve 18 having an external crosssection at least as great as that of stick part 1 and sliding freely on part 3, the sleeve 18 having a projection 19 at its top which is engaged by slider 7 as the frame is opened, and slider 6 riding on to sleeve 18 when the frame is opened, sleeve 18 being located between stick part 3 and the sliders in an opened locked position of the frame. The sleeve 18 is preferably made of plastics material, has a length less than the distance between crown 5 and recess 16, and has a frusto-conical lower end. Ribs 8 each comprise two telescopic parts, a strut 11 being pivoted to the inner end of each outer rib part by means of an articulation sleeve. An auxiliary strut 12 is pivoted out its outer end to each strut 11.
