Abstract

1,229,487. Expansion joints. FRIEDRICH MAURER SOHNE STAHLBAU. 29 April, 1968 [29 April, 1967], No. 20240/68. Heading E1B. In an expansion joint between road, bridge or like slabs 1, 2 comprising two or more resilient strips 6, 7 supported by edge bars 3, 4 and one or more intermediate I-bars 5, each bar 5 is fixed to a pair of joint-spanning beams 8 sliding on supports 9, 10 and longitudinally centred by rubber or other springs 13, 14, reacting on the edge bars 3, 4. In a modification the joint comprises six resilient strips 20, Fig. 4, spaced by five I-bars 19 secured to respective pairs of joint-spanning beams 21 (only one of each pair being shown), the beams 21 sliding on oblique beams 22, 23 resting on supports 26..29 and the group of beams being longitudinally centred by rubber springs 30. Below each beam 21 is a corresponding beam (24), Fig. 3 (not shown), engaging the undersides of the beams (22), (23), corresponding beams (21, 24) being interconnected by springs (25).
