Abstract
1,228,963. N-Carbamoyl lactams. BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK A.G. 3 July, 1968 [5 July, 1967], No. 31756/68. Heading C2C. [Also in Division C3] N - (N - Alkyl - N - aryl - carbamoyl) lactams of the formula where n is 2 to 11, R 1 is C 1-10 alkyl and R 2 is H, F, Cl, CH 3 , OCH 3 , CN, N(CH 3 ) 2 , NO 2 or CH 3 CO are used as activators for the anionic polymerization of lactams (see Division C3). The preparation of N-(N-methyl-N-(p-fluorophenyl)- carbamoyl)-caprolactam, by reacting N-methylp-fluoroaniline with phosgene and condensing the resultant carbamoyl chloride with caprolactam, is described in detail and other compounds where n=5, R 1 =CH 3 and R 2 =H, CH 3 , OCH 3 , Cl or NO 2 are prepared analogously. Reference is made to Specifications 969,989 and 1,204,583.
