1,228,160. Roller briquetting press. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 24 Sept., 1968 [3 Oct., 1967], No. 44902/67. Heading B5A. [Also in Division G3] In a roller briquetting press for char comprising a pair of parallel rolls 8 on fixed axes and each provided with co-operating cavities 9 around the periphery thereof, the pressure within the cavities 9 is maintained constant by automatically varying the speed of a rotary precompaction packer 10 by means of load cells which sense the roll separating force and a signal wherefrom is compared with a reference signal corresponding to a desired roll load, e.g. to increase the speed of the packer when the roll speed is increased. The char is produced by the fluidized bed carbonization of coal in a container 1 wherefrom it is fed whilst hot to hoppers 13, each associated with a roll pair 8, through rotary valves 16 the speed whereof is controlled by level indicating means 15, to maintain a constant level in each hopper 13.
