Abstract

1,227,804. Jet deflectors. VEREINIGTE FLUGTECHNISCHE WERKE G.m.b.H. 25 July, 1968 [26 July, 1967], No. 35599/68. Heading B7G. A jet deflecting apparatus comprises two flaps 1 and 6 pivotally connected together and lying one behind the other with respect to the longitudinal axis of an aircraft across the outlet of a lift engine mounted in the fuselage 3 or wing of an aircraft wherein flap 1 may be actuated by a drive mechanism (not shown) to rotate about a transverse shaft 2 and thereby, via lever 4, rod 5 and lever 14 causing flap 6 to pivot in a guideway 10 along which it travels upon two rollers 9, 9<SP>1</SP> whilst being guided by a pivoted arm 12 having one end carrying a slot 11 in which a pin 13 attached to flap 6 is displaceably engaged. The arrangement functions such that as the flaps open from the closed position in which they seal the engine outlet, both flaps deflect rearwardly the jet efflux until the fully open position is reached.
