Abstract

1,227,334. Heating and ventilating vehicles. ROOTES MOTORS Ltd. 11 July, 1968 [11 July, 1967], No. 31942/67. Heading F4V. A vehicle heating and ventilating unit comprises a casing 30 having a heat exchanger 5 supplied with engine coolant, outlet passages 6, 7 which lead to the front and rear foot wells respectively of the passenger space, a duct 10 to the windscreen and a butterfly valve 8 having one or more vanes 9 to deflect a proportion of the air flow through the passage 7 into the duct 10 when the valve 8 is positioned as shown. The valve 8 is provided with two fixed or hinged vanes 9 one at each end or with a single vane a its centre. When the or each vane 9 is adjustable, a rod or cable controls both the vane(s) 9 and the valve 8. In other positions of the valve 8 air flows only to the duct 10, or all hot air outlets from the casing 30 are closed. One or more additional vanes on the valve 8 deflect the air flow through the passage 6. A valve controlled duct 4 leading to a face ventilator is arranged upstream of the heat exchanger 5 and a fan 1 may be provided in the casing inlet.
