Abstract

1,225,724. Photographic film units. POLAROID CORP. April 11, 1969 [April 15, 1968; May 2, 1968; Aug. 28, 1968], No. 18804/69. Heading G2A. A photographic film unit comprising two sheets 12, 14, one of which, 12, is photo-sensitive and in which a viscous liquid processing composition is distributed within the film unit by moving the unit relative to and between pressure applying members 46 has means whereby the two sheets are laminated to one another by the passage of the pressure applying members in a transverse region located between an image forming section and a trapping space for collecting excess liquid. The facing surface of at least one of the sheets in the region contains a polymer which swells upon contact with water in the processing liquid to form a polymer, and a narrow elongate element 76 is secured to one of the sheets in the region to increase the pressure between the sheets locally. Alternatively one of the sheets may be embossed to form a narrow transverse rib (78) Figs. 6, 7 (not shown), or a cut-out (86) Fig. 8 (not shown), may be provided in an element (20) which binds the longitudinal edges of the sheet. A spacer element as described in Specification 1,225,723 may be provided to form the trapping space, or indentations (70), (72) Fig. 3 (not shown) may be formed in the trailing edges of each sheet, or wedge shaped elements (82) Fig. 8 (not shown) may be provided on the lateral sides of the trailing edge of one of the sheets.
