Abstract
1,225,013. Testing electric cable construction. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Dec.12, 1968 [Dec.13, 1967], No. 56674/67. Headings G1A and G1M. The position of the conductors in a ribbon or like electric cable is checked by superposing the cable or an image thereof on a screen having windows where the cable conductors ought to be and detecting or measuring light or other radiation which passes through the cable and screen at any point at which a conductor is misplaced. When the radiation used is light it may be detected by eye or a photo-cell. The screen may be a photographic reproduction of a drawing, or an apertured opaque sheet. Two sheets may be used with overlapping apertures so that the effective aperture may be altered in accordance with desired tolerances by varying the degree of overlap. The effective aperture may be smaller than the conductor or its image so that the passage of any light indicates a fault, or it be larger so that only more than a predetermined amount of light indicates a fault. The invention may be used to test cable during manufacture an mark a defect or halt the machine or give an alarm.
